Granola Strolla Portable Solar USB Charger

Many times there are misconceptions or stereotypes about leading a more sustainable lifestyle.  There is that myth that insinuates you must give up all modern day technology and head to your tent in the forest to forage on bugs and berries. There is certainly nothing wrong with living that way; however it would be silly to think that people in the 21st century would go back to living without most modern day conveniences. Today, we can still have things that make life easier and go about it in a more earth friendly way.

Enter in, the Granola Strolla, a solar powered USB charger. Inventors Irene and Ben Rodda from Tennessee have a love for the environment and their devices. They are what we would call a green tech family. Ben is an electrical engineer and Irene has an eye for design. Together, they created the Granola Strolla so they could enjoy the outdoors and not worry about losing the charge on things like their mobile phones.

Ben and Irene are parents with two little ones, so it was important that they created something that was family functional and could withstand the hazards of being dropped, chewed on or picked up by the family pet.

The USB charger is multidirectional and can be easily clipped to a backpack for those on the go. No more need to stop in the local coffee shop and wait for who knows how long to get your devices charged. A big plus for this charger is that since it is a USB port, you will not need to buy different cords for charging. Simply use the ones you currently have. And this charger is just as fast as traditional wall chargers.

The Granola Strolla also contains a rechargeable lithium iron phosphate battery that stores the charge, so not to worry if you aren’t exposed to the sun for an extended period of time.

Ben and Irene have always kept sustainability on the forefront of their invention. The solar panels themselves are housed in molded recycled plastic. Not only is this part sustainable, but it adds to the kid element of sticky fingers and drooling. It happens!

Granola Strolla is now raising funds to get this product into the hands of consumers everywhere through its Kickstarter campaign running through October 12th.  Be part of this exciting project and contribute to get your own Granola Strolla. Bringing technology and sustainability to your local neighborhood.

Update: The Kickstarter Campaign has been fully funded and is now over. If you would like to pre-order a Granola Strolla, you can do so here.
